Why Now?

In response to growing workforce challenges in adult social care, national bodies have set a clear direction: councils are expected to develop long-term, joined-up workforce plans that are co-produced, evidence-based and sustainable.

The People at the Heart of Care white paper sets out a 10-year vision for reform, emphasising workforce development, retention and wellbeing. The Local Government Association has called for a 10-year workforce plan to match the ambition of the NHS strategy and the Skills for Care 15-year Workforce Strategy urges local systems to act now planning for the future by building on what works locally.

My approach aligns fully with People at the Heart of Care (Dec 2021): embedding inclusive values, building a sustainable workforce and delivering against the three government shifts:

  • from hospital to community
  • analogue to digital
  • sickness to prevention.

Valuing and actively engaging with people who are stakeholders and beyond that contribute to innovation in practice and solutions that are generative. Supporting leaders to build relationships that are meaningful and able to be responsive to the changing needs of the population they serve.

I offer expert, flexible support to help you shape a meaningful 10-year workforce plan that reflects your local context, supports your workforce and delivers on your commitments under the Care Act, the Health and Care Act and wider system responsibilities.

I lead the entire process from discovery and engagement through to writing, refining and delivering your plan, ready for governance sign-off.

Co-Delivery with Internal Teams

For councils that want to retain ownership but need strategic guidance, tools and coaching. I work alongside your teams to structure and strengthen the process.

Alongside the programme support for the responsibile leader is available, enabling focused sessions to build thought, process and planning that are aligned with specific local needs.

All sessions will be contextualised: the drivers for change, cutbacks to ICBs and other areas that will impact on morale, service provision and what is achievable alongside how the workforce plan will support the Government’s three key shifts.
